Portfolio analysis
What am I actually holding, and how much does it swing?
How to read the result
Technical
Portfolio beta is the value-weighted average of each holding's beta, measured on five years of monthly returns against the STI or the S&P 500.
Plain English
A beta of 1.2 means that when the market has moved 1%, a portfolio like yours has tended to move about 1.2%.
Technical
Effective holdings is 1 divided by the sum of squared weights, a common measure of concentration.
Plain English
Ten stocks with one making up half the portfolio behaves more like two or three. This number tells you which.
A worked example
Try the sample portfolio: DBS, CICT, the STI ETF, NVIDIA, the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, the ABF bond fund and some cash. Switch between asset class, sector and region to see where it's concentrated.
What it can't tell you
- Auto-filled categories and betas can be wrong. Check them and edit anything that doesn't fit.
- Beta is backward-looking and changes over time. It also says nothing about risks the market didn't price in the last five years.
- Prices are delayed, and foreign holdings are converted to SGD at the latest rate.
- Concentration notes are reasons to dig deeper, not advice on what to buy or sell.
